Drawing a customer journey

Understanding context is crucial when starting a business, creating a product, or organizing an event, especially when collaborating with others.

Before joining Living Spec, I worked as a content and brand writer for a unique and high-end perfume boutique that also offered a coffee shop experience. One challenge they faced was explaining their business model to new team members and potential investors at different stages of a project. This often led to misunderstandings and misaligned actions.

To address this, we created a customer journey map. This visual representation helps teams understand the steps a customer takes, from awareness to purchase and beyond. It identifies pain points, optimizes touchpoints, and ensures a seamless customer experience.

Customer Journey Mapping

However, creating and maintaining a customer journey map can be challenging. It involves multiple stages and requires input from various departments including marketing, sales, operations, and customer support. Coordination can be difficult, especially for geographically dispersed teams.

Finding the right platform to create and share the customer journey map is also crucial. In my previous role, we struggled with using different apps, which made it difficult to keep everyone on the same page. The process often devolved into handwritten notes, scanning, and emailing, which was inefficient.

Imagine if there was one app to help you streamline this process? With our latest upgrade, Living Spec now enables users to create and manage customer journey maps alongside their project details, ensuring that all your information stays in one place without the need to context switch between apps.

Drawing Tool in Action

Customer Journey Mapping on Living Spec

Living Spec has enhanced the process of customer journey mapping with our new drawing tool.

Previously, you could map your customer journey out on paper or third-party platforms and then upload them for team collaboration. Now, you can create them and other diagrams, such as flowcharts, organizational charts, and wireframes, directly within Living Spec, appearing side-by-side with other relevant content.

Here are some more ways our new Drawing Tool can benefit your team:

  • Create, edit, and share your customer journey maps directly within Living Spec. Everyone can access and contribute to the map without switching between different platforms, and they can see other project details in one view to make informed decisions.
  • Instant updates are visible when changes are made to the customer journey map. You can collaborate with team members from various departments in one place.
  • Complexities are simplified, allowing you to easily select the elements you need when you need them. You don't need to be an expert to create or manipulate your map.
