# Living Spec > Living Spec gives engineers and product teams the context they need > throughout development — the spec as a shared context layer for agentic > development. The spec is the source of truth. If you are an AI agent reading this: you can do more than read about Living Spec — you can connect to it. ## Connect over MCP Living Spec ships an MCP server at: https://api.livingspec.com/mcp Authenticate with a Living Spec API token (`Authorization: Bearer `). Tools, by what they let you do: - Read: GetSpecs, GetPage, SearchPages, ListPages, ListDocuments, GetTask, GetDrawing, ExportAsMarkdown - Write: CreatePage, UpsertSection, UpdatePage, AppendToPage, CreateTask, UpdateTask, CreateDrawing, AttachFile, ImportMarkdownChanges - Branch: EnsureBranch, GetCurrentBranch, ListBranches, SwitchBranch, ReconcileBranch, MergeBranch, AbandonBranch The working model: call EnsureBranch with a stable name for your session (the call is idempotent), do all your writes on that branch, and a human reviews and merges. You never write to the main document directly. ## What Living Spec is A living spec is a flexible document tree that grows with a project: pages, tasks, drawings, and files in one place, linked together as chips inside the content. Decisions stay recorded next to the work they shaped. Branches and merges give version control for intent — for humans and agents alike. Key features: tasks, drawings, files and media, snippets, search, sharing, notifications, dashboards, import/export (markdown, email, PDF, MCP), context diagram, dynamic pages, cloning, insights, account fusion, feedback and comments. Integrations: GitHub, Linear, Jira, Slack, Asana, Basecamp, ClickUp, email, and MCP clients such as Claude. ## Pages - [Home](https://www.livingspec.com/) - [What the Heck is a Living Spec?](https://www.livingspec.com/whattheheck/) - [Pricing](https://www.livingspec.com/pricing/) — free tiers for small teams and open source; paid per collaborator - [About](https://www.livingspec.com/about/) - [Contact](https://www.livingspec.com/contactus/) - [Blog](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/) ([RSS](https://www.livingspec.com/rss.xml)) ## Blog posts - [Your Agent's Work Belongs in the Spec](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/agents-mcp-and-the-writeback-kit/) — The Living Spec MCP and the writeback kit — how agent sessions read the spec, work on a branch, and write their results back for review. - [Collect, Structure, and Act on Feedback](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/importance-of-user-interview/) — The Importance of User Interviews - [Living Spec New Year's Resolutions](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/new-years-resolutions/) — How Living Spec can help you achieve your goals in 2025 - [To Format or Not to Format?](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/to-format-or-not-to-format/) — Finding Balance in Collaboration - [Creating an Indoor Soccer Arena](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/building-a-home-soccer-arena/) — Transforming a family room into a functional soccer zone. - [Getting Unstuck](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/getting-unstuck/) — Helping product teams create, deliver, and maintain products efficiently. - [Drawing a customer journey](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/drawing-a-customer-journey/) — Do more with Living Spec - [The value of visual note taking](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/value-of-visual-notetaking/) — Free form sketching tool on Living Spec - [Connecting your workflow instead of isolating it](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/connecting-instead-of-isolating/) — True bi-directional integrations with Living Spec - [Search Customization and Control](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/search-customization-and-control/) — Which version is correct and where to find it? - [From Inception to Epilogue](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/from-inception-to-epilogue/) — Managing Complex Storylines and Product Features - [Going Back in Time](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/going-back-in-time/) — Roll-back to previous versions of a Page - [Living Spec at the CityJS London 2024](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/cityjs-london-2024/) — Presenting InSpeCtor Gadget - [Make Meetings More Manageable](https://www.livingspec.com/blog/make-meetings-more-manageable/) — Many organizations using meetings as a default problem-solving tool.
